Egypt has fascinated me ever since I first studied Egyptology in elementary school. Experiencing this extraordinary destination in person was a lifelong dream come true—and I was incredibly fortunate to explore it with the expertise of a phenomenal Egyptologist, Hala, whose knowledge and passion brought every site vividly to life.
Our adventure began in Cairo, where we spent four nights at the beautiful Four Seasons Residences. This luxurious property features spacious, elegantly appointed rooms—many with sweeping views of the Nile River.
We kicked off our exploration with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world’s most renowned collections of ancient artifacts. We were then granted a preview tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which, though still in development, is already a breathtaking complex that promises to be a cultural icon upon completion.
A highlight that evening was dinner aboard a private boat on the Nile—an unforgettable way to experience Cairo by night.
The following day, we ventured to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid, one of the oldest pyramid complexes, followed by a stop at the historic Mena House Marriott. Crawling through the tight, narrow tunnels of these ancient structures was both challenging and exhilarating.
Hala explained Egypt’s spiritual history in fascinating detail—particularly the belief that all deities were manifestations of the sun god, Ra. It deepened our understanding of how advanced and unified the civilization’s cosmology was.
Next, we flew to Aswan and then on to the majestic temples of Abu Simbel, a marvel of engineering and artistry from the reign of Ramses II. After touring this site, we returned to Aswan and boarded our luxurious cruise ship, the Sanctuary Sun Boat IV.
Our journey down the Nile included stops at the Philae Temple, the ancient granite quarries, the dual temples of Kom Ombo, and a serene felucca sail around Elephantine Island. Each day offered new glimpses into the grandeur of ancient Egyptian architecture and mythology.
Further along the river, we visited the Temple of Edfu and the magnificent Temple of Luxor, where the scale and artistry were awe-inspiring.
The pinnacle of the trip was our visit to the Valley of the Kings, the final resting place of many great pharaohs, including Tutankhamun. Walking through the elaborately decorated tombs was a haunting and humbling experience. That evening, we enjoyed a festive Galabeya dinner, complete with traditional Egyptian attire and cuisine—a joyful cultural celebration.
We concluded our journey back in Cairo with a visit to Old Cairo and several of the city’s most important mosques, offering insight into Egypt’s layered religious and cultural history. Our final night was spent at the sophisticated Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, a fitting end to an extraordinary journey.
